The News:
As probably all of you know (Pardon me if there was a thread about this already) recently, a building has been purchased, and was being planned to be used as a Mosque, or a place of worship for the Islamic religion. Only "problem": It's within a few city blocks (within a mile) of 9/11 Al-Quaeda Attacks on The World Trade Center, where , obviously, Radical Muslims, part of the Al-Queada terrorist organization flew airplanes into buildings killing thousands of New Yorkers (And other people on the planes, from other places) 2 planes were flown into the main buildings, and lots of damage, and death occurred that day. This is supposedly an issue because Muslims having a place of worship near where other muslims killed thousands of people, could potentially be offensive to some people. Some arguments also include that the Imam (Leader of Mosque) could be a radical, or a recruiter for Al-Queada, or that the Mosque as funded by terrorists. The other side of the argument however, is that, well... FREEDOM OF SPEECH, FREEDOM OF RELIGION, and that Muslims died in 9/11 as well (Not just the crazy ones )
My Argument:
Y'know what? I'm not gonna wait for somebody to disagree with me. You guys hit the nail on the head. Muslims died in 9/11. Over 50 infact. (About 10%) There were Muslim firefighters. Muslim police. Muslim soldiers who gave their lives for this country, and for the civilians getting killed over there as well. Muslims who pay taxes, muslims, who are teachers, muslims who are bosses of companies, Muslims who are respected figures in government. Muslims who are American, and the fact that ANYBODY thinks that there people (Republicans, i'm looking at you) of a higher level of citizen than muslims, and that the Freedom of Religion only applies to certain religions, doesn't know what it means to be an American. Build the Mosque. As Ridgely said **** THE HATERS. IF we let them (gosh I hope so) build/buy the building for the mosque, then we will be teaching the world a lesson. That America ISN'T taking a step back from democracy, and accepting. If we decide to not let them build the mosque, then it will be a victory for EVERYBODY who hates Americans, especially Al-Queada. The fact that we can and SHOULD let Muslims build a place of worship near a dark spot on American and Islamic history will show Al-Queada that we accept Muslims. The world that we accept muslims. That we accept EVERYBODY, and that those bigots like O'Reilly, or Rush limbaugh, or Glenn Beck, or those
**** in the KKK, are such a small percent of this country. Whites, Blacks, Gays, Sraights, Christians, Jews, Shinto's, Muslims, Atheists, Asians, Budhists, Native Americans, Hispanics. We can Co-Exist:
