preparing the hunt
« on: October 06, 2010, 12:55:24 pm »
Rakk stood in the scorching heat, the sun gleamed off his blue armor. The suit he wore kept out the poisonous gasses that made up the planet's atmosphere. His friend Flint crouched in the sand, tinkering with a radio in the sand.

?what are you doing?? asked Rakk, realizing he was never told the plan.

?i told you already.? answered flint. Or, maybe he had not been paying attention, the sun was distracting.

?No you didn't.? replied Rakk.  Flint stood up and made eye contact with Rakk. Their visors were opaque, to keep the sun out and hid their identities from other people. The two were normally mercenaries, so secrecy was a requirement.

Today however they were freelancers. The military had hired them to come out and kill whatever was destroying their equipment. This stuff was expensive, but they couldn't spare any soldiers to take out the threat. The galaxy was in a war, and they were making a profit.

Flint gave out a heavy sigh. ?whatever's out here isn't just destroying equipment. It's hunting down and stealing the energy cells. So, I activated a bunch of energy cells to this radio, in hopes of attracting it.?

Rakk looked down at the radio.

?with duct tape.? said Rakk, almost questioning him.

?don't judge me.? said Flint, defending himself.

Rakk was skeptical. The radio looked like someone broke it and tried to tape it back together before their parents got home and found out.

?okay.? said Rakk, rubbing his helmet. ?so how does it work??

Flint picked up the duct taped radio and pressed a red circle on one of the batteries, activating it. The battery suddenly burst into a mass of fiery plasma, which in turn activated the rest of the batteries. Flint threw the radio several yards away from he and Rakk, the plasma burning through the duct tape scattering the batteries.

Flint jumped behind the dune that Rakk was standing on, as if the radio was going to explode any second from now. Rakk, unaware if it really would explode any second from now, jumped behind the dune with him.

Flint had a pare of binoculars out to watch and see if the creature was coming out. After a few minutes something shimmered into view, as if materializing from nowhere. It stood nine feet tall, it was humanoid in appearance, but seemed to be hunching it's back.

It's eyes were glowing bright blue, and without the binoculars Flint would still have been able to see it from their position.

?i think I see it.? He said, pointing at it so Rakk could see were it was. Though he couldn't see it, Rakk was squinting his eyes to see.

?oh, you mean the nine foot silver thing over there?? asked Rakk.

?no,? said flint. ?the other nine foot monster.?
Rakk moved closer, as if to see the non existent other creature and Flint hit his shoulder as if to say, ?really? Your that stupid??

?okay I get it. There's only one silver monster. But soon there won't be any.? he pulled the shotgun off his back. Their suits had magnets in them that allowed their guns to stay on their bodies without any straps or holsters.

?a shotgun Rakk? Really?? asked Flint.

?yeah. Why?? replied Rakk.

?oh nothing. It's just the fact that the creature is several dozen yards away.? answered flint. Unaware to the two of them, the silver clad monstrosity noticed the two of them, and shimmered out of sight, making sure neither of them saw him doing so.

?so?? asked Rakk.

?so, when have you ever seen a shotgun hit anything anywhere near that distance?? replied Flint, a tinge of anger in his voice. Neither of them noticed how the sand seemed to move toward them, despite nothing being there.

?i don't see your point.? said Rakk.

?My point is your an idio-? Flint stopped. It felt like something had grabbed his throat.  He tried to find his knife, but couldn't. He tried to hit the unseen creature, but to no avail.

?i'm a what?? asked Rakk, unaware of the current predicament his friend was in. the beast began to pick Flint up, out of the sand.

?hey how are you doing that?? asked Rakk, believing it was some sort of trick.

?c'mon tell me! oh...? Rakk suddenly realized what was going on. He aimed his shotgun in front of where Flint was being held and fired, blasting the silver beast into reality.

The creature threw Flint down at Rakk who quickly got back up and chased the beast. It ran out deeper into the desert. Rakk fired another shot at the creature  but Flint was right, the gun had no where near the range to hit the creature.

?CRAP!? he shouted in anger.

Flint walked over to him. ?get your stuff Rakk. We're chasing that thing down.? behind his visor there was an intense fier in his eyes. He wasn't letting this one get away.

?couldn't let me kill with the shotgun? Have to draw this out some more??
?don't question the story arc Rakk just do it.?
